The Markwell name has been synonymous with seafood in the Tweed region for more than 85 years. Originally plying their trade as mullet fishermen in the early 1930s, Cahill and Denny Markwell expanded into seafood retail, processing, wholesaling and exporting. When their son's entered the fishing industry they were assured that this family tradition would continue, and it has to this day. This history ensured that we would become Australia's largest producer of premium mullet roe and their associated products. All of our catch is wild-caught, domestically sourced from the waters of New South Wales and Queensland, and of the highest quality. With produce this good, we are proud to serve our customer base all over the world.

Our Story
What makes us different from our competitors? We started as a family-owned seafood processing company in Tweed Heads, New South Wales in the 1930's, and over the years have grown to one of Australia’s largest seafood processors, exporters and wholesalers. Over our decades in the trade and our extensive network of specialist operations, we have developed experience across every step of the journey, from sea to plate. Our experience reaches from retail, restaurant, wholesale, processing and export with decades of investment in beach, trawl and longline fisheries.

About our Seafood
We process freshly caught whole sea mullet onsite during the annual mullet travelling season, which extends from early April through to early August. This results in the availability of both fresh and frozen mullet roe (Karasumi /Botarga), whole mullet, mullet barrels, rib bone in and boned fillets as well as heads and intestine for fish bait. Other bait products include locally caught white, blue and mixed pilchards and ocean and river bait prawns.

Our wild caught trawled products can include green and cooked prawns, bugs, sand crab, octopus, cuttlefish and squid.
